The British International School of Charlotte (BISC), formerly known as the "British American School" is a non-sectarian, co-educational college preparatory day school located in the Ballantyne neighborhood in south Charlotte, North Carolina. BISC offers education for ages 2 to 14 (UK Nursery to Year 9/US Pre-K to Grade 10). The school opened in September 2004 and was the fifth school opened in the United States by the British Schools of America. British Schools of America operates five additional schools similar to the British International School of Charlotte. ==Curriculum==
The Primary School, which includes Nursery to Year 6 (Pre-K-Grade 5), offers the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and adopts best practices from the British National Curriculum (England and Wales). The teachers are all trained in the UK on the British curriculum, which focuses heavily on personalization and individualized student learning, via Personal Success Plans. Additionally, classes are based on themes which provide a common thread between the various subject matters allowing students to better retain the information. Students at the British International School of Charlotte sit externally graded standardized tests in English, Maths, and Science as recommended by the British National Curriculum (England and Wales) at the end of Years 2, 6 and 9. Optional tests are taken at the end of Years 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 in Maths and English.
